①Morning Routine: Starting the Day in a Japanese Office
Hi! I'm working at a consulting company based in Tokyo.
Today, I headed to the office early. There’s an event I’ve been looking forward to all year scheduled for the evening, so I will finish my work by then!
However, things didn't quite go as planned when the elevator took forever to arrive... No worries! I think of it as exercise and took the stairs instead!
②Daily tasks: What to do in the morning
Starting my work! As same as working remotely, I kick off my day by organizing tasks and updating Excel sheets with some caffe latte! I like to have an idea of what tasks I should prioritize, and confirm the expectations of the team. Sharing ideas in the morning is essential to get things done effectively.
③Lunch Break in Tokyo: Dining with Coworkers
Lunch break! I go out to restaurants with my colleagues near the office and enjoy talking with them! Finding a place to eat can be tough with all the crowds. Luckily, I found a seat on the terrace today! Since lunch break is only an hour, I hurried back to the office afterward.
④What to do in the afternoon - Tasks
After lunch, I return to my desk to complete the remaining tasks for an upcoming overseas event. I had several meetings in the afternoon today, so I prepared for it too.
I mainly use Japanese at the office, but there are many occasions I get to use my mother tongue and English as well. I think this is a very important point I can contribute as a foreigner in my workplace.
I might be very analogue, but I always like to create a to do list on my notebook and scratch down every task that is over. This helps me see my progress and keep me motivated.
⑤What to do in the evening - Meetings
Since I usually meet with colleagues online, it is a great chance to do face-to-face meetings. I can focus better and actively participate in the meeting!
⑥Wrapping Up the Day: After-Work Activities
Today is the long-awaited day of my favorite artist's live concert! I wrapped up my work and used flexible working hours to leave the office, all set and ready for the concert!
Thank you for seeing it through to the end! How was it? I hope you all consider a well-balanced work-life life in Japan!
